St. Philomena Parish, Des Moines, WA

Faith Formation

July 21, 2024 Bulletin Notice: Jesus is calling you. Yes, Jesus is calling you! Can you hear His voice?

Jesus is asking for two strong catechists to teach fifth and sixth grade. If enrollment allows, we can combine these two classes.

We have training, all the necessary materials, games, songs and crafts. And we will add one or two aides for your classrooms.

Is Jesus calling a husband-and-wife team? Is Jesus calling a set of grandparents? Is Jesus calling a high school student team?

Please call the parish office and leave your name, phone and email address. I will get back when i return from vacation.

Religious Education: Weekly classes every Monday evening from September through May beginning at 6:30 pm and ending at 7:30 pm. We have classes from First through eighth grades. Please make sure your student has eaten, used the restroom and arrives on time.

Sacramental Prep: Our Sacramental prep is a two year program with the first year focusing on the basic doctrine and prayers. The second year is also instructional with emphasis on Reconciliation to be celebrated in the fall, and Eucharist and the Mass, with First Communion celebrated in the spring.

Confirmation: Confirmation Preparation begins in September with classes every other Sunday afternoon 2:30 pm to 5:15 pm. The Sacrament is celebrated right before Ash Wednesday.

RCIA/RCIC: The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children is a faith journey for those adults who wish to be baptized, profess to the Catholic faith, adults who are lacking Sacraments or just wanting to deepen their faith. We meet every Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 pm in the Upper Conference Room. All are welcome at anytime.

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children follows the Religious Education calendar. This is for children over the age of seven who have not been baptized. They will receive basic instruction the first year, receive Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation at Easter Vigil the second year. We ask that come back the third year to prepare and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
