As an update regarding our parish website(s), as of now, there are no longer two separate websites for our parishes. Thanks to the generous assistance of a parishioner, we now have one website for both parishes. This is a great step for us as a parish family and will help us to communicate more effectively to our parishioners, and to everyone else.
The fact is, so much of the content on the two previous websites is duplicated. As creating one bulletin for both parishes has proven to be of benefit, so it will be with the website.
You can access our website by entering either www.saintthomastukwila.org or www.stphilomenaparish.com (the domain names which were in place when I began my ministry here in July 2024).
On the website, you’ll see we’re in the early stages of updating the content so that it reflects both St. Thomas and St. Philomena. We will continue to make these updates. As I believe you’ll agree, a website is only useful if it is intuitive, well-organized and up to date. I’m very grateful for the parishioners who assist to help ensure ours is all three of those things.
An important feature that we wanted to maintain is to allow it to be changed by the user, from English to Spanish (and vice versa).
Also, we want to expand our website to include content of other important things going on in our parish. For example, Father Ben is working on content for our Seatac Catholic Young Adults, but also our Respect Life Committee. Another example is that we want to include content that is particularly useful for our Hispanic Community, and so, for example, we intend to have content for those who are beginning to plan a quinceañera celebration.
I welcome your suggestions of what other content to include, as I appreciate your perspective. As a measure of responsibility, I would then present your suggestion to our communications team to ensure it’s both useful and appropriate.
One thing you’ll notice on the main page of our website is that it now lists us as Seatac Catholic Parishes – St. Philomena and St. Thomas. As you may recall, when the parish families of the Archdiocese were established in 2024, they were identified by a number. We are officially Parish Family #29. Like other parish families in the Archdiocese, we wanted to establish a clearer reference to our parish family. Because the parish boundaries of both St. Thomas and St. Philomena include part of the city of Seatac, and also because Seatac Airport lies directly between our two parishes, we have informally (not canonically) adopted Seatac Catholic Parishes as our identifier. While not faith inspiring, I think we can agree it’s better than #29!
Yours in Christ,
Father Todd O. Strange
